I've recently received some feedback about this journal. The consensus is that I should stick to one topic within a post (I agree), the shorter the better (I agree but um, yeah right), pictures are always good (I agree), and I should stick to professional/personal experiences that really delve into OT, instead of just my lists of "I have so much to do for OT school, look!". I've thought about it, especially since I do want to improve my writing. My thoughts on the matter are that I enjoy writing streams of consciousness about my day or upcoming projects - it helps me figure out what I need to do and if I'm going to write it up anyway, I might as well share. Do you all agree? Should I stop posting my to do lists or "im stressed out" posts, and just focus on the professional and personal experiences? I would appreciate input. If I were writing this 100% for myself, I'd continue writing them, because it brings me sanity. But since I only do it 90% for myself, I do like hearing what others think!!
This blog chronicles my OT journey starting from 2006 in the beginning of OT school, through 9 months of fieldwork, to my first year as an OT working in rural Deep South in physical dysfunction, to my transition into an elementary school system district in California. I'm in my third year now and learning new things every day. My mind is constantly blown by the amazingness of OT!

Laundry lists: Yay or nay?

Definitely keep posting your laundry lists. This is a blog not the AJOT. I love how you keep a mix of personal and professional issues. Sometimes when I'm extremely stressed and overwhelmed I read your journal and realize that we are going through the exact same thing- it helps me out so much and you are definitely helping other students and future students. Besides, you are going to love looking at this blog from the beginning someday and remembering all you went through to become a professional.

Our life as a student is so dynamic. We aren't constantly dealing with professional issues related to the OT-world, we're trying to balance our social time, our work time, our leisure time, and if possible slip a little rest time in there. Then again, so are the people we treat... we don't see people as a condition or a disease, we see them as individuals with roles and occupations, with dreams they want to fulfill... they just have an obstacle in their way and it's our job to pinpoint it to give them options so they can carry out the lives they want to live.

That's all I have to say about that.

I say do it for yourself :) You're writing's good anyways, and you're going to improve just by doing the blog.
If people say you shouldn't do personal things, maybe add a paragraph at the end that's like "on a personal note"?
Hey Karen
It's your blog - which you use as a way of making sense of your world - whether thats your world as an OT student, or your personal world or whatever... so post what is important to you....if someone doesn't like it - I guess they go elsewhere - Patti is right...your blog is not an academic journal nor is it a blog about marketing OT... decide the purpose of the blog for you - and people will either enjoy it or not - its just like a book on a shelf - I might pick it up, read it - not like it.. I probably won't try that author again. Pick another author - love the book, and read everything and anything else they write... The same happens for me with blogs - some I enjoy reading - they challenge and stimulate my thinking - others - well they don't grab me so I just move on - but that's not to say that they don't work for the owner or for others! Hope this helps you to continue owning your blog and developing it in the way it works for you!
